Records/British Census (1841-1901) There are seven publically available British Census returns; 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901. The latter years have been extensively indexed by others, for example the full 1901 British census index is available to access at 1901 Census Online. For other years census returns have been found from locally produced indexes or by looking at the census for particular areas where Wholeys have lived in later years. As an estimate there are probably about 150-200 named Wholeys (and variants) within each census. The census has therefore produced a lot of data, and currently I am working to put all the information I have gathered on this site. However, I am concentrating on census returns which back up information on the individual family trees. To browse census returns you can currently either visit the individual family trees and follow the links, or you can browse through the individual census pages arranged by family and close relations (see below). As yet there is no master index to the census returns on this site. Please note that this page provides links directly into transcripts of the original records used to construct the family histories found on this site. These are only transcripts (although transcribed direct from a copy of the original document) and there is therefore a risk that there are errors. If you find a record that you are particularly interested in please contact me and I will double check with copies of the original documents.
