Privacy

Much of the information on this site is already in the public domain through record offices etc.  Other information has been provided through personal testimonies of descendents.  The data held by the Wholey Family History Society therefore includes information about living Wholeys.  There is much debate over whether this genealogical information is subject to Data Protection laws, as so much of it already in the public domain.  There are also more general concerns in the population at large over data fraud issues and identity theft.  I have therefore decided to err on the side of caution and rule that no information on this site will be given after around 1901 (the date of the latest census data released in the UK) for the following:

  • Names
  • Births
  • Marriages
  • Deaths
  • Place of residence
  • Family tree relationships

There are two exceptions to this rule:

  • War records
  • Some miscellaneous records and facts - at the discretion of the Wholey Family History Society

If you require post-1901 data please contact me direct and I will endeavor to help you in your enquiry.

Copyright

Unless otherwise stated, the Wholey Family History Society owns the copyright to all material on this site.  Please do not reproduce information from this website without written permission.  Where others hold copyright the source has been made clear.  It is not my intention to misrepresent the work of others as my own, and therefore every effort has been made to ensure that where others have made discoveries this has been referenced.  Similarly every effort has been made to all contact copyright holders.

The National Archives has authority to grant permission for the use of British census returns and civil registration documents - which are covered by Crown Copyright. The Crown waives its copyright in the contents of unpublished public records that are available to the public. The Wholey Family History Society is therefore free to index, transcribe and publish such Crown copyright material. We acknowledge the National Archives' custody of the original document and give the full document reference. The first citation of such a document in the National Archives custody is preceded with the phrase 'The National Archives (PRO)'. All subsequent citations have the document reference prefixed thus 'TNA(PRO) '.

For the the index of births, deaths and marriages from 1837 onwards permission has been granted by the Office of National Statistics.

Accuracy of Data

The content on this site is the culmination of many years work, and every effort has been made to ensure that the information is accurate. Where possible original sources have been transcribed, with a copy of the original record kept in paper form.  Similarly family trees and biographical information are based on a combination of original sources and personal testimonies.  Visitors to this site who rely on the information contained in it do so at their own risk.  If you think that you have found an error please contact me so that I can check the original record.
